NASA warns that, while the sky may not be falling, the moon may be falling… into China’s hands. The head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration said in an interview that China has plans in place and a partnership with Russia for a lunar base by 2035 and he fears it may be a bid to assert ownership over the moon itself. Who cares? There’s nothing up there. It would be relatively easy for the US to have a moon base maintained to fend off such activities if necessary. Especially if it’s actually strategic for Mars missions, etc.  

China faces all the same obstacles of power, water, food and many other things as any other country would. Plus they’ve never been there.
