In the aftermath of a drowning incident this week, Phuket’s Governor Narong is pushing to increase safety measures. Narong visited Patong Beach for an inspection yesterday (Friday), saying he wished to support lifeguards working there. Red flags have been posted at the beach, and lifeguards are stationed to closely monitor tourists’ safety, according to National News Bureau of Thailand. I hope that lifeguards are not the same as security of a village or condo block ( they always sleep)

No disrespect for the tragic loss of life.

But as for the governor and his obviously crass media event, does anyone give a continental toss?

People die because they don't understand the sea is not a dipping pond. 

Tonnes of fast moving deep water teeming with venomous or predatory wildlife is best left to those with experience, and a good working reason to be there.

Why aren’t the life guards more proactive they have whistles I presume - should be telling people to get out of the water and keeping a close eye on those who refuse instead of sitting in their tents looking at their phones.
