The Bhumjaithai Party who pushed for the decriminalisation of cannabis now says they are shocked to find people are using the drug recreationally. In a Facebook post yesterday MP Suphachai Jaismut said that his party had campaigned for the legalisation of marijuana strictly for medicinal purposes. The Bhumjaithai never intended use of cannabis for anything more than improving the health and medical treatment of the people of Thailand, and were not considering recreational use or the economic advantages of legalisation. The government is now considering the Cannabis and Hemp bill expected to pass through the House next month to rein […]

Why bother then. Hypocrites by tooting their horns on legalizing it with some restrictions and then now backing out like it is some evil thing that people should not be able to enjoy.

Alcohol and cigarettes are far more bad.

My understanding is that it's not "legal" for recreational purposes, but rather to "legally" sell it and buy it you must be a licensed dealer with a fixed address and be a registered patient with a patient card...

We all know these rules are not being followed. The question is who is to blame for that and what will they do about dealers operating out of vans and carts rolling joints for people on the side of the road.?

Lmfao! This speaks volumes for the collective intelligence and knowledge of human behaviour of this man and his party. Anutin championed this as a way to ingratiate himself with voters in his quest to become Prime Minister and it will prove to be a folly. My plants are enjoying the current rain and in a short while I will enjoy their floral abundance.

Recreational use was obviously already rampant as it is in many  countries. "legalizing" the production of hemp and "medical" cannabis was/is a logical move away from the dangerously lucrative blackmarket business that incarcerated in large numbers mostly only the hapless end users. Legalization has created a legitimate opportunity for many in various business aspects, removed most of the corruption specifically involved, lowered the prison population, will hopefully  see a lowered demand for synthetic poisons, increased the possibility of witnessing once again the legendary Thai Smile.

An unfortunate possibility is also an unrestrained acceleration in the obesity and diabetic population due to the munchies !

Does the government not do EVERYTHING  to make a buck? Why can the citizens not do that then after the poor help they got with covid... maybe by some more fighting planes or a submarine without a motor... or some beautiful lamos to place in the jungle...lol

Full of shit. Once legalized, people will misuse it.

Using THC to get high is no different than using caffeine to wake you up in the morning, except that THC is less harmful than caffeine.
