Admirable concept  but I suspect  more of a PR  action than any serious concern for the  starving poor. An international franchised outlet  here in Thailand exchanges food product  well before expiry date with the withdrawn item withdrawn from human consumption. 600 tons would likely be 1 weeks worth nationwide. Many supermarkets worldwide  have had laws enacted to make "dumpster diving " to recover daily  rejection illegal .  The world does not suffer from a food shortage even now. It suffers from the greed of corporate distribution and pricing controls afforded them  by political corruption !
