The 5-day holiday weekend is driving up tourism numbers, but there also seems to be a rise in patients with severe Covid-19 infections that the Department of Disease Control says will likely increase from holiday travel. This warning came from the epidemiology director of the DDC, who laid out increases in severe Covid-19 infections as well as those who require to be on a ventilator. Two weeks ago, 638 people were considered to have severe infections with lung inflammation and 290 people required a ventilator. On Sunday that number had risen to 786 severe infections and 349 people on ventilators. […]

I can’t help from the first article then this one that they’re inferring that it’s tourists as the cause of the spike in numbers. Some data on how many are in hospitals might add credit to the claim or clarifying whether they’re talking about Farang or thai as well.

All this talk of a “long holiday” weekend. Unlike the government, most businesses only have tomorrow as a holiday.

Whether it’s a holiday or not, it seems all the Thai medicrats want to do is blame everyone else for their own failures.

Perhaps we should be asking if those on ventilators or serious lung inflammation were given anti-vitals like p’nut early in their infection? I’m willing to take a guess at that answer—no.

He warns that a long holiday with people travelling all over the country could create problems for outbreaks that are now generally contained to certain provinces but may be spread as holiday-goers cross provincial borders and interact during sightseeing, shopping, partying, and other vacation activities.

2 and half years later... masked at all time, social distancing at all time, vaccinated twice, 3 times, 4 times (and amazingly even 6 times for at least one person we all know in Thailand) and still, "he warns"... No travelling, no partying, nor any "other vacation activities" (?????) is what "reasonable" people in Thailand should do. Is life worth living really? How much of masking, social distancing and vaccinating is needed before life can resume as "normal"? And what the "warning" will be when people will have to go to vote during the next general elections soon...??
