Thai officials announced on Friday that the number of Covid-19 cases in the country is expected to start rising next week. The CCSA said that in September, the number is expected to hit a peak. The CCSA added, however, that if people follow the Public Health Ministry’s suggestions to avoid crowded spaces and public gatherings, daily infections will start dropping from November. I thought panic mongering was illegal. Lock up these officials. Throw away the keys. 

There is no way to make a prediction like this. There could just as well be under 200 cases a day by September.

They’ve been about 0% accurate to date. Remember the post-Songkran spike? Yeah, no one does. But you’re saying there’s a chance? 🥹

In all likelihood this latest subvarient is likely to peak in July. With less travel restrictions the global peaks seem to be getting closer to each other—which to me is better than knowing the worst is coming.

Correct.

The more important thing than cases, is that globally, deaths are lowest they've been since March 2020. 

Restrictions are ending all over the world, Thailand needs to get with the program and drop this irrational fear.

Please remember that this is a country that by and large believe and are terrified of ghosts.  A populace that spends millions of baht on lucky numbers, numbers  they dream or thought they saw on rubbed a tree and on seeing with a squint can see a number to bet on, or the rego of their car.

They are a simple, not well educated and mostly a  poor populace and suspicious of everything regards karma.

Demanding they change this way of thinking is fruitless, maybe in 50 years or so they will come around, (better educated) but by then most of us will not be here to see it.

What a (predictable) mess. Its basis is probably that a positive ATK result (perhaps even less that) is good enough for receiving funds, but not good enough for incrementing the case counter by 1, all because "case" has been redefined as "positive PCR result" (perhaps even stricter nowadays, e.g. "in absence of other complications"). 

That's like redefining pi to make it a more appeasing number; the inevitable result is that the number becomes useless.

What's next? Redefining the number of cases as the constant 0? As ridiculous as that sounds, it's exactly as silly as what has already been done.

If information is withheld out of fear of scaring the population, educate the population instead.

For what it's worth the numbers are rising here in the Netherlands, hospitalizations are rising,so operations are cancelled etc etc.The excess death rate for the first four months of this year took the authority's by surprise.I still want to be in Thailand in January but I am afraid of what will happen come November,even with the rubbish € exchange rate and flight in excess of €1000.I am running out of years,71 now. Take a direct flight to Thailand, the first few nights in Bangkok,take the airport bus or taxi to Pattaya for a couple of weeks then the last few days in bangkok all done at walking pace. Hopefully.

Phew, it is so good that the state of emergency has been extended or things would really get bad. You have to congratulate the CCSA for having such clear thinking and keeping the interests of the people in the front of their minds.

Correct. Panic, fear, and pessimistic, illogical predictions do not help anyone or anything. To be expected from this band of dinosaur goons. Thailand deserves better.
