The Minister of Tourism and Sports would do well to keep his mouth shut for fear of swinging another wrecking ball through an already decimated industry. Stick to announcing more targets of wealthy whatever or other ineffective nonsense.

As far as I am aware, there would be no hope of this ever happening as just about every hotel I know of, get their bookings from companies like booking.com, Expedia, Accor, Agoda, etc. These include both from within Thailand, as well as from overseas. There is no way that any of these reputable companies will allow for the dual pricing to appear on their websites so how will this ever be managed. In many overseas countries that these booking sites operate from, this split system would be illegal under consumer laws so there is no way the hotels can implement it unless they forget about accepting what is probably 95% of their bookings from these companies and go it alone. See how long that would last to an industry already decimated.

You'd think that they finally had reached the bottom of the pool (like with the 300 bahts fee), but no, they still manage to dig even deeper...amazing.

It is scary that the government would even suggest such a plan at all, let alone at a time when the tourism industry is trying to get back on its feet after total decimation.

I get and understand dual pricing at state owned facilities. Local people, theoretically at least, pay taxes towards their upkeep and so can expect a discount. Foreigners pay full whack. But all this latest suggestion does is reveal what Thai government officials really think of visitors and it doesn’t bode well.

It wasn’t two minutes ago they were opening their arms to wealthy investors, keen to shake off the brick wall image and apparent ambivalence towards foreigners. Now the true light is showing through.

By all means run local promotions to encourage people from Bangkok to take a long weekend in Krabi when booking rates are low but not a blanket dual rate.

I really do feel for the business owners desperate to re-kindle relationships.
