A 22 year old Frenchman died in a motorbike accident this morning in Samut Prakan province in central Thailand. The man lost control of his motorbike while driving over a bridge and fell off on to a footpath, breaking his neck in the fall. At 10:30am this morning, police at Bang Bo Police Station received a report that a man had died in a road accident near the entrance to Assumption University campus in Bang Bo district in Samut Prakan. Strong likelihood that he was an expat family's son if coming from the university. I hate these stories. 22 years of age just rips the heart.

While this is a tragic story and sad... it is an often repeated story because there is a stark lack of common sense among many many young people of all nationalities.  Take time to caution your kids and grandkids... don't just tell them... mentor them.

So many parents want to be friends with their children instead of actually parenting them but I'm sure we're all sorry for their loss.

I wonder why many are riding high speed bikes without proper gears. They have the money to buy the elephant. But don't have the money to buy an "Elephant's goad"

Looks like one - and judging from the damage done, he hit something at quite some speed. Sad, but young people do tend to think that they are immortal (been there, done that, survived, and have the aches and pains from broken bones to prove it).

I've driven everything from insane fast motorcycles to scooters that do 20MPH on the high side downhill with a push and strong wind. You have to know to respect the machine and the power it has. The second you don't give the machine the respect it deserves is the same second it kills you.

True. Motorcycles are a lot of fun but 80% of road accidents in Thailand involve motorcycles. I rode them for years, got away with it but a mate of mine didn't.
