The media reported compensation and responsibilities would lie with the event promoter.

Watching a bike race from the curbs without there being any kind of protection is downright stupid (on par with going on a trip that involves swimming with alligators).

Unless the victims were unsuspecting passerby, I have mixed feelings about holding the organizers fully responsible. When a crash (or alligator) causes casualties, the victims are not blameless; it's the public's collective stupidity to accept or be blind to the risks that made the event (or trip) in its form possible in the first place.

Boating accidents are common, not just in Thailand.  They've been occurring a lot in the U.S.  Not everything is an "only in Thailand" thing.

This was not  boating. It was a poorly conceived and negligently managed motorcycle event that should never have been allowed. The public road was not designed for a motorcycle race, let even capable of  hosting one.

As an aside, watching the people pick up the injured  body after the fall was depressing. If he wasn't paralysed  after the crash, he was after being lifted and dragged.

Blame the organizers all you want, but the  town administrators, local police, participants and the supporters all share responsibility for enabling the event. Sad to say, but how can an intelligent person be sympathetic for such stupidity?
