A Filipino transgender woman has taken the crown at a world-renowned beauty pageant in Pattaya yesterday. Contestants from Columbia and France ran up in second and third places. Altogether, 23 transgender women competed for the title. The crowned queen, 27 year old Fuschia Anne Ravena, dazzled the crowd in her glittery silver dress, which the bejewelled silver crown matched well with. Firstly, it is good to see a competition where transgenders can compete openly against each other without denigrating the role of natural women.

Secondly, the author describes the winner, Fushia, as a transgender woman". Not wholly true; how about we sit happily with what they are, "transgender" and leave it at that?

Thirdly, I will never be comfortable with referring to them as "she" and "her". Until someone engineeers acceptance for "shim" and "sher" just to be politically correct, how about we leave it as "him" and "his" to stop the insult to genetic women?
