Thaiger Posted June 25, 2022 #224094 Share Posted June 25, 2022 Vendors on Pattaya’s Jomtien Beach aren’t having it with the beach’s new rules for them. Local authorities plan to ban vendors from operating at the beach after the vendors used a new stretch of the beach to sell their products. The new space was created for tourists to enjoy but merchants, local businesses, and hawkers quickly moved onto the area setting up stalls, tables, chairs, etc., denying access to people wanting to use the sandy area. Starting July 27, all businesses will be banned from reserving spaces on the beach, sidewalks, and roads, to operate for personal benefits. Expand Because they have a history of not respecting rules. These vendors are parasites. They pay no tax, monopolize space that they did not pay for nor directly maintain. How would you feel if a vendor set up shop on your walkway, blocked access to your home, leaving their trash behind and hooking up to your electric supply without compensating you? Use water hoses on these people and they will go. 3 Quote Link to comment https://talk.thethaiger.com/topic/15366-news-forum-pattaya%E2%80%99s-jomtien-beach-vendors-are-putting-up-a-fight-over-new-rules/#findComment-224206 Share on other sites

BBY Posted June 26, 2022 #224268 Share Posted June 26, 2022 IMO and in all fairness, Street food is part of Thailand’s history and for many, an attraction. Yes on Jomtien beach it has become totally out of hand and causes mayhem. It needs to be organised and managed. With a market manager. Create an area on or near the beach with clearly marked areas (the usual motorbike & sidecar size). Those using them will have a fee collected on the day by the market manager. The fee should not be extortionate but enough collectively to pay for the market manager and the nightly cleaning of the area. Allocation on a first come, first served basis. No reservations. Yes their is likely to be all of the following, nepotism, cheating, bribery, etc, etc, etc. but it’s a start and a way forward for those that make a living and those that love street food. Infringements could be dealt with week/month ban’s from selling in that area. Beach chairs and tables (all the same) can be rented from the municipality. Collected by the user with a return deposit. Fees for use such as 50 Bht per chair and 50 Bht per table for as long as you want up to a closing time. This gives the opportunity to bring in money for the municipality, to pay for setting up the area and continue improvements. 5 Quote Link to comment https://talk.thethaiger.com/topic/15366-news-forum-pattaya%E2%80%99s-jomtien-beach-vendors-are-putting-up-a-fight-over-new-rules/#findComment-224268 Share on other sites

Thailand is such a tourist attraction because of its people and beauty, The vendors are an intertwined part of that, Pattaya or anywhere else, Look at the overhead pics, it's more of an attraction to come and visit. 1 1 Quote Link to comment https://talk.thethaiger.com/topic/15366-news-forum-pattaya%E2%80%99s-jomtien-beach-vendors-are-putting-up-a-fight-over-new-rules/#findComment-224274 Share on other sites
