Thailand’s parliamentary police aren’t seeing the point of their new uniforms scheduled for next year. The country’s roughly 200 parliamentary police officers are usually issued with 2 sets of uniforms, each costing about 5,000 baht. The budget for new uniforms would altogether require at least 2 million baht. Yesterday, about 60 parliament police officers submitted a petition to House Speaker Chuan Leekpai, protesting what they call a waste of taxpayers’ money. Probably an element of truth in this story. My brother in law is a cop. He receives the standard issue uniforms free of charge and stores them with his cleaning rags. He pays to get his own uniforms made. Might be the same story with the parliament police who may have just paid for their own tailor made uniforms 6 months ago and aren’t keen on paying again.’

All uniforms are ugly.

The new uniforms probably have more room to hang medals and baubles. Thais just love uniforms and even after they leave the service they still hang onto those titles.
