Let's not give any support to the incorrect impression that the Maldives are under special threat. They've allegedly been under threat since long before I was born, and they recently completed construction of five airports -- not usually something done at sites expected to vanish beneath the waves soon.

The truth is that sea levels are not rising any faster today than they were when humans first started collecting data in the 1850s. For example, here's the data from the measuring station at the Battery in New York: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/sltrends/sltrends_station.shtml?id=8518750
