Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt revealed a plan to complete a project to rid the metropolis of its eyesore cables that was first started in 1984. Chadchart revealed a 2-part plan to finish the 38 year old project to remove the city’s messy power cables, replace them with new, and bury them beneath the ground. A nice idea but fraught with issues. Unless there are enforced rules which stop telco operators doing what they do today, then putting the cables underground will result in more expensive and disruptive issues. When cables fail or poles become congested, it’s far far easier to solve compared to digging up roads or walkways to clear the problem. I also hope they understand the need to place gas seals in underground telco ducting and equip people with proper training. If not then this is literally like sweeping rubbish under the carpet.
