Must you be married to share a room in the Phuket Sandbox?

Recommended Posts

What many of the incoming international travelers (almost all men) are probably going to do is to go to a location other than their quarantine hotel to engage in "short time interludes" with a domestic Thai person, and not care whether that individual has been vaccinated or not.

No, you cannot "have a "nap" together in the afternoon, etc."

For what little it's worth, no it's not. Solicitation is illegal, prostitution is NOT.

No you cannot have a nap together in the afternoon, ratzig. It leads to etc, Isn't that right Stonker?

There is too much etc going on in the afternoon . . .

So couples, long term partners, even engaged couples will be exempt from staying together.

Rather defeats the object of getting away for a holiday together then.

You can understand why the numbers of expected tourist figures keep being revised.
Expected tourist for July 10,000, bars and entertainment to remain closed, 5,000, only married couples allowed to stay together, 1,500.

Great line from Fawlty Towers ... Basil to Sybil .."Sybil Fawlty , Mastermind ! Specialist subject ...The Bleedin' Obvious ! "

To me it now sounds bleedin' obvious that they do not want many to come this time , only a handful of guinea pigs so that they can monitor how things go . The fact that they are being cruel to potential visitors and have led people into believing that this was a genuine opening up of the island is of no concern to the authorities, after all we are lowly farangs useful only as cash dispensers .

One wonders how those military guys, ~ 500 odd isn't it?, will react if told 'no nookie' :)   That's assuming they get beyond the 1st problem of enough alcohol and girls to party with.  Will Police be patrolling the beaches at night?

The few 'tourists' who return via the sandtrap are most likely to be expats who thought it a better option than ASQ lockup in BKK.  Surely no genuine tourists would bother coming.

Certainly, since you ask.

NO, the Phuket residents are NOT all vaccinated. Around 50% are, and around 25% have had a single dose, mainly Sinovac.

... and NO, neither are all the tourists as nobody under 18 is likely to be vaccinated.

... and although 70% or more of hotel staff are vaccinated, very few of the bar / entertainment staff are or will be.

The problem isn't tourists, particularly international tourists  -  it's tourism, with all that tourism requires.

Well there you go. I seek updates less and less as the changes are ridiculous. My understanding was the locals would be 70% vacc'd before any tourists come, all tourists would be both local and international. Unless they meet this standard it will be a disappointment to all.

Again, the numbers and infections will be an interesting watch.

If you don't like the requirements, don't participate. Then they'll (maybe) get the message when no one comes. Simple.

Oh, just like the single transferable vote.

@Stonker - your post makes good sense and highlights the stupidity of officials even opening their mouths on subjects when they have no correct advice to offer.  Unfortunately the Thai way is often, speak 1st, think later

Thanks and agreed @KR - particularly the "Thai way" for officialdom, even more so when talking to farangs trying to catch them out.

Unfortunately the Thai way is also tell people what they think they want to hear and to try to keep everyone happy when doing so makes nobody happy instead.

Awhile ago Bali was looking to do the samething and if it went ahead it would hurt tourism besides this virus.

Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam have all realised it's simply not possible until far more are vaccinated. I'm increasingly convinced that Thailand has realised the same thing, but instead of saying so they're just making tourism a non-starter while trying to do the impossible and keep everyone happy.

That was the original plan - a non-starter given the time frame.

That would be funny except it is sad! In the "sandbox" like a prison what does it matter where you are or who you with. Isn't that idea that everybody there is vaccinated and well you don't leave the island so you can't spread anything to the mainland! Wonder if it is a purely "health" issue or Thai's just being prude all the sudden! Surely this may make some "Fereng" less likely to go!

Thai-style rip-off.

And don't forget. How many PCR tests are required?
For each one, the friendship price of THB 2800,-- is to be paid.

Too true, sadly!

Haha... Just when you thought things couldn't get anymore stupid, it should now be understood, that a piece of paper, a wedding certificate, protects against covid.

30 days lockdown, let's kill of the rest of already struggling business, by trying a lockdown again that obviously didn't work the last few times we tried it, the same can be said about masks. (And I say this, assuming you believed this was about health in the first place)

Now there's only 3 lockdowns until Christmas.

You can wine, dine, watch a movie and have a "nap" together in the afternoon with your partner but not stay in the same room at night.

The logic from TAT/Thai officials is simple: "THE COVID-19 VIRUS IS SLEEPING IN THE DAY TIME AND IS ONLY INFECTIOUS AT NIGHT". Sorry, unmarried couples can't stay together in the SHA+ room!!! LOL.

Oh, before I forget. The married couples can because COVID-19 viruses are married couple friendly and it will not want to infect the married people who stay together in the SHA+ room ...????

Please try to understand TAT/Thai officials why they are doing this. They are just following the science!!!

Every morning I wake up looking at the news to check if with this logic, it actually wasn't a weird dream, but unfortunately all this nonsense is the reality ?

The whole thing is an an abomination, given that Thai teachers and foreign teachers cant get vaccinated to get the Thai education system open. Shame on all of them. Education before entertainment.

Every Thai I know who works as a teacher, has got the vaccine already, except for any foreign teacher I know. They should ask them once again about the equal opportunity for foreigners and Thais. Being sent to the back of the line repeatedly doesn't sound so equal. Maybe it's done so you'll get tired of it and pay the money instead of getting it for free.

Maybe not true for the general population, but certainly true for the generals in government.

My apologies if this has already been answered, but what happened to the GPS wristbands?

People were caught masturbating and they had to be discontinued.  Rapid hand movements and a spike in heart rate caused too much concern amongst the minders. Now it's two tracking apps on your phone.
