I read this and asked the wife ' did you read that cannabis is no longer illegal and it's ok to grow some on your land'? So the police can't arrest you?

She just scoffed and said 'that will depend on the policeman at the time' Let's wait and see.

 

I should add I have zero interest in growing or smoking cannabis, just curious to see how this turns out. Lookng like a typical farce so far.

And just when you thought it was time to celebrate, they want to ruin it ... It's baffling. What's the point of decriminalizing the plant (i.e., owning and growing) if you criminalize usage of the plant and all it's by-products

The way I read the reports was that it was only ever decriminalized for "medical use" and not an open slather approach that some seem to feel it was. Perhaps those thinking otherwise and who use the item were overcome with their excitement or under its influence at the time!

What will be interesting to read is what "medical use reasons" will suddenly and creatively appear. Or will their costs go up as they seek a "medical report" certifying their condition and registering their "condition" with the local police.

They didn't. Or at least, haven't yet.

And now the genie is out, it will be as "illegal" as gambling, prostitution, porn, sex toys, drug paraphernalia, "Kamagra", and even poppers. All sold widely throughout Thailand's night markets.

The bud is, for now, decrim. 

That's why thousands are being released, court cases cancelled, and records expunged. 

There is currently no restrictions on the THC level of buds, which would be impossible to actually police anyway.

While there's no explicit permission to use recreationlly, there's no penalty other than that of the tobacco act, vis: smoke causing a public nuisance, and that's a reportable offence, technically, a cop can't arrest you for that, a report first has to be made. Besides, in many tourist areas notably outside sexpat zones for some odd reason, weed, psychedelics, MDMA, and speed (in various forms) have been popular for decades in spite of draconian laws, and weed and shrooms are even openly marketed in areas such as Koh Lanta!
