Phuket’s Vice Governor Anupap announced a 5 year goal for reducing Phuket’s road deaths at a meeting yesterday. Anupap said the goal for 2027 is to have only 12 deaths per 100,000 people. This would mean 41 road deaths a year in Phuket. Last year, Phuket saw 70 road deaths. To meet the 2027 goal, Phuket would have to cut its current road death rate almost in half. But can it be done? So far this year, as 2022 is halfway through, Phuket has already seen 42 road deaths. Anupap says that changing current realities will require several steps. These […]

OMG!!! Just enforce the helmet law and many who are in accidents won’t die. Yes the aggressive drivers will still cause accidents but until enforcement of road laws kicks in the enforcement of helmet requirements can save many lives.  I hope success is had and lives are saved.

Realistically if anywhere in Thailand has a good chance of getting riders to obey the laws, it is in Phuket.

Limited area (still large)  put up BIG signs saying this is not like the rest of Thailand and strictly enforce the rules. One month would see a change.

Hardest part getting the cops to do their part, but maybe solved with 10% of the tickets they write coming back to them in cash.  Make the tickets simpler, 5 tickets per hour @500 baht it will soon mount up. Easy money. Cops will be fighting for traffic duty.

Yes the populace will suffer (short pain, long gain) but maybe then they will not flaunt the rules as they do now.

Foreigners disobey the rules, double the fine.  They should have more sense.

Foreigners should have more sense and from what I see generally they do. Until they get children off motorcycles, helmets on motorcyclists, unlicensed riders and drivers off the road, enforce speed limits and the road rules nothing will change.

The helmet thing is easy no helmet leave the bike till you have one and pay the ticket not mean you have a free pass for 1 or 2 day and register who drive with no helmet 3 tickets then dubbele the tickets

Education should start in schools, workplaces and through aggressive advertising, cause no one in Pattaya other than expats seem to know what a zebra crossing is or what it's for. All motorcycle riders and pillion/passenger should be wearing helmets no matter of age or nationality. Whilst living in Pattaya over 5yrs I seen around 7 deaths of young riders (16-30) die because of head injury due to wearing helmets. I pray that death toll will be 0 and that those in government have the right attitude to make the roads safer for everyone.

Start charging the same for fuel as they do in the UK and you will reduce Road volume and speeding to a certain extent. Keep certain Covid measures to keep the tourists away and continue the policy of bankrupting the nation so that no one can afford to drive anywhere
