Many people overlook access to quality medical care. And obviously for a "retiree" this needs to be a significant factor in rating the best place to retire... I suspect that these locations do in fact have access to some of the better medical care outside of Bangkok. Reality often sets in with expats, who have set up camp in the rural areas, when they make their first visit to one of those rural government hospitals. Of course if your in the medical field as a nurse or doctor, I am a Critical Care Paramedic, most do mean you well or they wouldn't be in the medical field. However, Thailand has a WIDE variety of hospital facilities, capabilities, provider education and skill levels. Do... do your research on this, don't skip this part. I think the real trick is to find you a good Thai doctor, those are truly hard to come by.
