A woman’s appeal for justice through social media has been successful after she was beaten by a member of the local authority in the La Haan Sai district of the Isaan province of Buriram. Wichuda posted on Facebook that she was assaulted by a member of Buriram’s Subdistrict Administrative Organization because she complained about the plumbing. There's a lot left to the imagination in this article and it's obviously one-sided, but there a valid observation in there that seems to apply a lot:

"[…] nothing happened until the story went viral on Thai social media."

I do realize that there are many more cases where something did actually happen without the need of going viral first, and that those cases don't end up in news articles. Still, the fact remains that social media play a noticeable (possibly even a significant) role in achieving justice. As great as the recent PDPA (an obvious association) is in principle, in its current form it's a step backwards.

No justice for her until others were made aware of her plight through social media. However under new laws she can be fined and imprisoned. Perhaps the new laws are to protect the corrupt.

Typical thai not the one do wrong is to blame but the one who rightfully complain get punished must be the great thai culture people talking about
