In what is being seen as a sham trial two Britons have been given the Death sentence for their part in the besieged Steelworks siege in Mariupol.

Aiden Aslin and Shaun Pinner were taken after they surrendered to Russian forces after the siege ended. They are accused of assisting terrorists against Russian combatants.

This court is seen as nothing more than a kangaroo court and is not recognized in the west as an international court. It is believed Putin may be using these two for propaganda purposes because the UK is supplying Arms to Ukraine.

Filming prisoners of war for propaganda purposes is considered an act against the Geneva convention.

From the article:

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesman said that, under the Geneva Conventions, prisoners of war were entitled to combatant immunity and they should not be prosecuted for participation in hostilities.

Clearly they are not big on the Geneva Convention. I found it interesting they were convicted for being mercenaries and yet the Russian army is full of them. Goes to show when it comes to Russia, it’s best not to trust them. No doubt it will effect any potential peace talks.

BJ’s mouthpiece mustn’t have heard of the recent trials of 3 Russian soldiers. But that was different, right? lol

I think this Russian show trial of the 3 soldiers/volunteers is as valid as the Ukrainian show trials of the 3 recently convicted Russian soldiers. The accused in a Chinese court with it’s 99% conviction rate would have a better chance of being acquitted than an enemy soldier in this time of war.

There is no trust between either side so no change there. I doubt it will have any effect on any potential peace talks.

6 defendants 3 + 3
Hmmm… looking into my crystal ball I see a prisoner exchange coming up in a couple of years. It would not be the first time Russia and Ukraine have “soldier volunteers” convicted in a civil court and exchanged them a couple of years later.

They were given life sentences not a Death sentence bit of a difference.

They will all be pardoned before exchange. The leaders of the independent regions would already have been told by their masters that it would be political & personal suicide to execute soldiers/volunteers/“mercenaries”. The tit for tat scenario that would arise must be in any diplomat’s top 5 nightmares.

Besides they are valuable pawns - why waste them.

According to the UN, yes:

The United Nations has declared that unfair trials of prisoners of war amounts to war crimes, after three foreigners captured while fighting with Ukraine forces were sentenced to death by pro-Russian rebels.

“According to the chief command of Ukraine, all the men were part of the Ukrainian armed forces and if that is the case, they should not be considered as mercenaries,” Shamdasani said. “Such trials against prisoners of war amount to a war crime,” she added.

Seems Russia just can't stop committing war crimes.

They know full well what there doing Edward today Sky News is reporting that a minister in the Russian Foreign Ministry has reportedly said it's up to the UK to appeal to the Authorities in the Donetsk Region. This so-called Court has no judicial meaning in the west aka a Kangaroo court. The spokesman also said the UK's reaction to the death sentence was Hysterical. Our PM has told his foreign secretary to do everything to have these 2 released. So Putin is trying to say he didn't authorize this court case so he can say it wasn't me. We have a few options in my opinion to get these released.  A prisoner exchange, make a phone call to Hereford and place the SAS on standby for a Snatch from their Prison. We are very good at this special operation. like this.

It's a circular argument. The Russian proxy court exists because Russia established, protects and recognizes the fake Donetsk People's Republic. Putin then uses the facts he established as a shield in order to pretend he doesn't have anything to do with it. He can pretend all he wants, it's still another war crime by Russia.

To anyone that has half a brain, it is obviously a retaliatory propaganda campaign against the Ukrainian trial of the Russian soldiers. IE= you do it to us then we will do it to you.

As the court is not a real court, so the "execution" will be seen as nothing more than a kangaroo execution and will not be recognized in the west as a real execution. Nothing to be bothered about.
