Southern Thailand doesn’t look like it’s headed towards peace any time soon. In the latest report on violence in the region, a man in Yala province has been sentenced to 46 years in prison yesterday after he was charged with terrorism, criminal association, and violating the firearms and explosives law. In theory, he would have been better off committing actual murder and getting 15-20 years (half that if he confessed).

Probably because if not he might be on the death row now. Terrorism carries 3 to 20 years, life imprisonement, or death penalty (section 135/1).
