Incredible. 8 years for a murder, and because he confessed he didn't get the full punishment. Apparently, Thai Criminal Code states that any person who kills another person shall be punished by death or imprisonment for a period of 15-20 years. But even 20 years is a gift for murder.

Killing someone, I'm ok on the 15-20 years BUT if you then chop up the body it should be a death penalty.

8 years and he'll be deported to Britain, where, unless he has outstanding in UK, he will be free to roam as technically he has done his sentence.

This man has serious mental problems and shouldn't be allowed in society again.

Her mother has lost the income from her daughters 'job', so I suppose the money will help.

Are you Thai??  I would have thought the loss of her daughter would have been more on her mind.

Sadly mate he couldn’t be given the death penalty. He was caught in Spain and was only deported by the Spanish and EU authorities on the agreement he would not be executed. I’m sure a prison accident could await him. I wouldn’t want to spend 8 minutes in a Thai jail, let alone 8 years. A real concern if he’s then allowed to live a normal life back in Europe

Should be 80 years instead of 8 years

People get 99 year sentences for drug dealing but only 8 for murder? That doesn't sound right.

Drug dealing is a crime against society affecting many people. Murder is “only” 1 person. The murderer got 16 years but half deducted for pleading guilty. imo, the sentence was woefully inadequate and a few big brown envelopes were involved.

The brown envelopes, right. Drug dealers would have those too though.

Breivik got 21 years for killing 77 people... each country has its system...

Indeed. However you need to consider that often all the assets of a drug dealer are confiscated as proceeds of crime and the police are paid a % of that seizure so it is in the police’s best financial interests to convict a dealer. The brown envelopes come later for reductions in the amount of drugs seized and reduced sentencing. It is not uncommon for foreigners with a sufficient bankroll to plead guilty to a far smaller amount of drugs and be deported immediately with minimal time served.
