Soldiers in Thailand’s northern province of Chiang Rai have shot and killed 8 suspects who reportedly opened fire on them along the Thai-Burmese border last night. Sixteen drug mules dead in two contacts. Good! Hope they total a lot mote of them... no trial, no jail expense.

You assume that the facts are all correct and reliable. 

Not that I disagree with your zero tolerance of the narco cartels knowing the damage they have done to Thailand, but we have seen and heard of too many staged incidents and deceits that I cannot accept versions of such events when first reported. In the past when the security agencies had learned of planned infiltrations they would dispatch  special ranger and special force  units to catch the gangsters, but this time they used the regular army?

Either way the deceived or the deceive, it is in a good way. Anything hurdle to contain more drugs is good news.

One advantage of the Thai way is they don't mess about. Shoot to kill,  seize assets immediately...... excellent
