Thailand’s target for 2027 is to cut this number to 12 people per 100,000. The so-called “Vision Zero” goal for 2050 is to completely eliminate traffic fatalities, and severe […]

Russel Crowe must have told him about New Zealand’s goal of 0 road deaths by 2050.

Transport Minister Michael Wood and Police Minister Poto Williams have today launched the Road to Zero public awareness campaign, which sets a target of zero road deaths and serious injuries by 2050, and a 40 per cent reduction by 2030”.

It’s cringeworthy reading what the PM had to say on this topic. Not a single clear action or initiative was given. No reference to increased police presence and enforcement. I’ve never once seen a police car stop a speeding motorist. Nothing about education in schools. No mention of stricter standards for driving tests. Nothing about changes to the road infrastructure such as removal of U-Turns. All he said was that the people need to comply and do their bit. In other words, we won’t do anything and you lot need to take responsibility. Well that will work then won’t if!!  What a national embarrassment.

If they swapped the Covid and road safety strategies, many more lives would be saved and the economy would boom.

“Of course, I know the problem and how to solve it. But it won’t work 100% because of a lack of public cooperation.” (<-- Prayut quote)

That quote is so funny.

I personally know how to solve the problems of domestic abuse, animal abuse, fraud, murder, bullying and the list goes on. All I need is the full co-operation from the public aka everyone (which handily includes the perpetrators).

All he ever does is flap his trap. He just needs to go away. He would tell a pig how to put on lipstick if he could, and he might just be more successful at doing it.

They could start with check points by checking if drivers are licensed, their vehicles registered and are insured. Any failing get their vehicles impounded until problem is rectified. Enforce the motorcycle helmet law and age limits for for motorcyclist’s. I see children as young as 8 riding motorcycles in a reckless manner.

But actual enforcement would lead to a serious loss of income for many police officers.

Again, such a big promise. Why not start low and fulfill that promise big time? Then people will say: Well done! Even better than expected!

Now all people will do is complain because you never reach the high bar which was set by themselves.

One statistic that these articles never mention is that there are almost always fewer road fatalities during the "Seven Deadly Days" than the average yearly rate. Even in this article, it states that last year there were 17,831 road fatalities, which averages 195 fatalities for an average 4 day period.

According to this article, the first 4 days of Songkran last year had 192 fatalities and this year 157. Why keep calling them the "Seven Dangerous Days" if the rest of the year is more dangerous?
