As we’ve seen in the rest of the world, we’ve done enormous damage to the education and lives of millions children to extend the lives of a small % mostly elderly and sick people by a few months or years.

In the United States, the years lived lost to drug overdoses far outpaced years lost to covid.

That's factually true, but have you compared it to the other extreme scenario, i.e. if the virus was allowed to go around unbounded? The education system (or any sector for that matter, not in the least the medical sector) would have suffered even worse pre-Omicron; at least now we've got a sufficient number of teachers left, no hospital barred their doors and no tuk-tuks were reserviced into wagons to pick up corpses. This year, it's time to let go of the habits (including occasional knee-jerk reactions) acquired in the prior 2 years.

That's what you get from the fear porn. Now people either lost their job because of the overreacting, got in financial trouble because of it, or they still don't dare to send their kid to school. 

In my school there are still parents who don't want to send their kid to school or want to have them completely separated during lunch etc.

it is an syndrome effect because of covid, the kids got use to not going to school, now bring back to culture to going to school, will take time.
