Thailand’s tourism authorities say their goal for the number of foreign arrivals in Thailand is expected to happen earlier than they predicted it would. The Tourism Authority of Thailand previously said it expected 1 million tourists per month to arrive in Thailand between October and December, during high season. But now, TAT says Thailand should reach this goal starting in June. As of May 19, Thailand has welcomed 1.1 million tourists. These people in the TAT are just priceless, not to mention clueless. They open their mouth, and I swear to God, the wind blows their tongue about!

The reasons why they are useless predictions from the TAT, is perfectly articulated in the article.

The Thai government are going to need to work very, very hard to get anything like the numbers they had pre-covid.

That tarantula must be on the staff at the TAT. The airlines are doing their best to make sure this doesn't happen as well, I have only looked at the UK prices but at the moment an economy return LHR-BKK for July and August is north of £1000, which is at least double the lowest pre-CoVID price.

They don’t even have the flights to hit these numbers. Malaysia, Sinagpore, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Indonesia make up a huge portion of arrivals but there’s not enough routes restored yet. I just took a trip to Singapore and it was tough to book the flight because there’s so few. Sinagpore airlines was 20,000 baht return economy!

It will take months to restore the routes meanwhile the airports aren’t set up to receive them. Is DMK even taking international arrivals? Meanwhile half of Suvarnabhumi’s are closed for renovation.

Rather than predicting an increase in numbers the government could be doing things to encourage them like getting rid of Thai pass, eliminating other mandatory covid regulations.

one million? conservative estimate. At least 2.5 million wealthy/well heeled torists scrambling to get thaipass approved and booked to LOScams in time for rainy season. All luxury items will be taxed or confiscated upon arrival.
