Hotels on Koh Larn, and island off Pattaya, are 100% occupied today, according to a hotel operator there. The operator said that tourists who couldn’t find rooms had to return to the mainland after enjoying their day of fun. Thousands of tourists are crowding the island, marking the first night of the 4 day weekend. The operator, Kanchananop Sukkhee, told the Bangkok Post there were 2,000 rooms on the island, and over 10,000 visitors. Lucky for Koh Larn. A report in todays Bangkok Post seems to show no one else is having such luck. The article with the Headline: 

Hoteliers Downbeat over Long Weekend 

 

Tourism operators received a lukewarm response to the four-day holiday this weekend as the economic downturn derails travel decisions, prompting operators to rely on the gradual return of international arrivals.

Economic concerns are weighing on potential domestic travellers, led by surging prices of fuel and consumer goods, said Phisut Sae-Khu, president of the Thai Hotels Association's eastern chapter.

Some major BS in play at the moment. 400K arrivals first week in May, which i believe to be Trumpian level fake news, and now days later hoteliers complaining ("Downbeat" according to BP headline) about lack of customers. Would beg the question, at least for the gullible, as to where these hundreds of thousands of arrivals are staying? Same article in BP sites India, Malaysia and Vietnam as major source of visitors. LMFAO, as my kids would say. This country should be re-named Dreamland, in honour of it's leadership.

400,000 arrivals may've included short-stay (transit) passengers as well as returning residents/expats and business people.  AOT's figures don't tell the true story especially when TAT spins the numbers.

Bangkok is full of farangs just now, but those folk don't seem to be visiting Koh Samui, Hua Hin Chiang Mai and other popular destinations.   My central Bangkok hotel was booked out last weekend and almost full during the week as were a number of others along the Suk.
