Or “Top and Tai’s Excellent Adventure”. Two teenage boys attempted to walk from the Isaan province of Udon Thani to Phuket in southern Thailand, a distance of some 1,450 kilometres, because they wanted to visit their relatives. The pair didn’t get very far. When they were spotted walking along the road in Udon Thani, they were sent back home for their safety. Residents of Udon Thani saw the boys walking along the Baan Dung – Baan Soom Sao Road and reported them to a rescue foundation. The two brothers, 14 year old Top and 12 year old Tai from Daan […]

At least these boys never steal or cheat others. They are really adventurous at a young age. Look at the positive side of their behaviour. They wanted to decide their own destiny. Yeah it is really dangerous for the teenagers to walk such a long distance. What should have been done, just encourage them to continue their journey with helping hand along the way for food and accommodation.  That will boost their morale and spirit of being adventurous. Just imagine if this were to happen in a developed country, every tom, dick and harry would have jumped in to encourage them to continue their dream adventure....

C- for Planning, E for Geography.

14 and 12? They are just victims of the school system

Or genetics. Plenty of kids in the world without education who have the cognitive ability to look at a map and to understand  distance and to appreciate the concept of planning. One boy said it would take a week to walk, and yet only had 5 bananas. Most likely these boys skew to the left of the intelligence Bell curve.  A school system cannot do miracles if the students are intellectually limited.

The only thing adventurous here is your imagination. You do not know anything about them do you, so how do you know they "never steal or cheat"? Maybe they are angels, or maybe they did something bad that is unreported and they were doing a classic Thai runner. We do not know.  There was nothing positive about this if the story is correct. You have assumed they wished to decide their own destiny. Highly unlikely. The extent of their advanced thinking was to bring 5 bananas. Brilliant,  No it should not be encouraged because it would then result in other suspected intellectually stunted children doing similar.  Every day in Thailand children are abused and having them wandering about like this would only end in tragedy. And no in a "developed" country  the only people interceding would be child protection services.

Call me a cynic, but I expect that we will soon have someone asking how they can send the boys money or swag. Soon they will be on the radio and interviewed. Famous Thai style.

Admirable attempt at a young age. Do something great in your life time.

How is walking off with 5 bananas doing something great? This is a celebration of stupidity. Here are some examples of kids doing something great - the primary school kids who won the Gold medal in South Korea at the International Youth Olympiad 41

- Nattapat Subsompon, a Prathom 5 student He received not just a gold medal in the contest, but also the Special Award: The Best of Best Invention from the World Women Inventors and Entrepreneurs Association. “I was inspired to develop a door opener for wheelchair users after seeing how my elderly grandma has difficulty opening a door from her wheelchair,” he said.
He added that this tool was especially designed to make daily life more comfortable for wheelchair users.
The other primary school gold medal winners were Nattayadanai Pintanont, Pannatorn Pinijwongwittaya, Naruchon Chinnawattanakul and Jeerateep Kosawisut, who invented a “smart” wheelchair. A pair of silver medals were awarded to two other teams for inventing a “smart” walking stick and a cognitive development tool.  A bronze also went to a team that created a high-tech cane for the blind.

Above are examples of  Thai kids doing something "great".  How about celebrating them and not dumbing down the world and making a fuss over 2 simpletons.

And how many bananas did they take? None. Clearly these 2 scallywags are destined for greatness! You should be in awe of Asia’s answer to Forest Gump.
