News Forum - Thailand won’t take sides in Russia – Ukraine war, says PM Prayut

Recommended Posts

Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha says that his upcoming visit to Washington for the US – ASEAN summit on Friday does not mean Thailand will choose sides in the Russia – Ukraine war. He says the purpose of the summit is to discuss economy, trade and investment in the region. However, Ukraine has requested that Southeast Asian nations suspend dialogue with Russia, so political analysts expect that the summit might pressure PM Prayut to address the war despite his efforts to remain impartial. Leaders of Southeast Asian countries will convene in Washington, US, from May 12 – 13 for a […]

The story Thailand won’t take sides in Russia – Ukraine war, says PM Prayut as seen on Thaiger News.

Just accept criminality, unlawful war, genocide and bullying then?  What a cowardly statement.  You would have thought that their WW2 history would have taught them that sitting on the fence is dangerous.  China is watching PM.

Exactly. More Thai politicians speak Chinese than English. I made that up but it’s true.

You insult everyone when you make facts up. How do you expect to be taken seriously?  Which Chinese language do these Thai politicians speak? Are you aware that of the 10 recognized principal Chinese language variants, 7 dominate and by dominate, I mean more than 50 million native speakers. And of each language there are multiple dialects. This is why English continues to dominate the foreign language capability of Thai 'politicians".

The majority of the politicians who had foreign educations obtained  them  in USA, UK, Australia. No one senior went to China.  Several of the current senior members have some solid academic credentials like Don Pramudwinai, an MA from Tufts and an MA from UCLA in USA, Supattanapong Punmeechaow attended  INSEAD, France, Wissanu Krea-ngam has an LLM and JD from UCLA, USA. Itthiphol Khunpluem LLB from Golden Gate Univ, USA, Trinuch Thienthong  BBA, MA Economics, Western Illinois Univ. USA, and on and on it goes.

As I looked at the  CVs of   the cabinet members, I have come away, rather impressed. Excluding the military guys, all of the non military ministers are well educated and for the most part have an education and work experience that qualifies them for their position. Hands down winner goes to  wonderful Kalaya Sophonpanich who has her doctorate in high energy nuclear physics from Imperial College in the UK.

Yes, many Thais  can speak some basic Chinese, but these people are typically in tourism and business trade related  operations.

America is sending billions in military aid and hence self defence. Maybe, maybe they won't solve it but at least they are doing something to stop this total insanity and aggression. Prayut only cares where his next tourists are coming from.

As is the UK.  And yes, but I don't think that he even cares about that. If he does, then it's not too obvious.

Don’t be so sure. They won’t sort it any any overt way, but rest assured plenty of covert activity is taking place. What would you advocate then?  All out thermonuclear war?

Smart move by the Thai PM. Why should he draw Thailand into this Circuit while Russian Tourists provide income for the struggeling Tourism Industry. Besides that Thailand has no interest or investment in either Ukraine or Russia. He also made clear what the upcoming ASEAN Meeting in the US is all about and it's not about the Ukraine/Russia conflict.

To my knowledge Thailand has done pretty well and was never occupied by any Western or Russian, Japanese or Korean forces in modern history. Thailand had it's share of regional conflicts with the Khmer Empire, Burmese Invaders etc. but that was quite some time ago. So why jumping into a circus where the country can only lose ?

Not at all true.  Its a myth that the Thais like to perpetuate..  They collaborated with the Japanese in WW2 and allowed the Japanese military to occupy border areas to Burma and in Phuket, which was a Jap stronghold for maritime operations. The UK Eastern Fleet was about to bombard Phuket and destroy the Jap facilities when the Jap cruiser Naguro was sunk off the island and the threat diminished.

That has one reason: Always just before they got defeated, the allied with the enemy.

Really. Not bothered about the higher prices of oil or gas? What if it leads to world war 3?  Any interest then? What about the human suffering being inflicted on the Ukrainian people. No interest in that either I assume?

You are joking right?  What do you think modern day Laos was once? Had it not been for that fact that Thailand was a convenient buffer between the British and French empires, either one would have moved in and colonised the country. It wasn’t by skill, or strength that it remained uncolonised or occupied. It was simply those two colonial powers chose not to. Also, what about in world war 2 when it was occupied by the Japanese, does that count?

The future for Russians as they travel abroad (this happened in Poland) lol...

Just look at those faces, rofl. Bet they are wishing they could use their nukes or their Nazi police to arrest the women protesters, haha.

Russia is just a country of criminals and it really must suck for them when the world stands up to a bunch of toothless bullies. Sorry, you can't throw those red paint throwing protesters in jail as you are in a democratic country, hahaha.

But don't worry Russians can still travel to Syria, North Korea and China in the future...

Thailand is probably best to be neutral through this and stick with the Buddha philosophy. They mistakenly made their bed with the Chinese and Russian tourists so kinda hard to reverse course now. Thai's tend to chase short term money as opposed to long term strategic thinking....

China will eventually try to expand in the area through maritime claims or Taiwan and eventually Thailand will get nervous and abandon them. The Thais are good at flip-flopping to whatever suits them in the short term.

But ya, if you are Russian and travelling abroad, best to pretend you are from another country and maybe buy Ukrainian stickers and sew them to your backpacks or luggage. People who are Russian in my country are embarrassed to say where they are from and spit on the ground when they mention Putin.

This power grab by Putin has been horrific for all of the innocent women and children whose lives have been lost.

It's unfortunate that so many begin their view of the Ukraine war with the February 24th invasion, without regard to events that led to the fateful decision or what the hidden agenda is. The Alliance has been poking the Russian bear for years prior. First they overthrew the elected government and planted a Zelensky. Then they push Ukraine to seek NATO membership, like the Cuban missile crisis.

How is Thailand affected? The biggest threat is the push for World Governance - China has unwittingly proposed exactly what the NWO trolls want.

The goal is to exploit the Ukraine war to plant a "Zelensky yesman" in Russia & other nations, in order for NWO to be realized. Next, China & India. Then we will all be microchipped. They who control technology control everyone. It would be SO easy to crush any dissent - just switch off their chip & hence their lives. That's why Thai people should be wary of Ukraine as well....
