Recommended Posts

Just four months after its epic reopening in January, officials announced that Thailand’s Maya Bay, located on Koh Phi Phi Leh in Krabi, is planning to temporarily close again from August to September. The bay had reopened in January after closing in 2018, before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, because of how much tourism had damaged the ecosystem. Since the reopening, almost 100,000 people have visited the bay this year, raking in over 20 million baht of income, according to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment. But yesterday, the ministry announced the bay will temporarily close again in order to […]

Great Job. Well done. This will help the target of 10, 12, 15, or 20 Million tourists. The place has been closed for nearly 3 years. It’s open for a few months and now it’s closing again. No need to close it, just limit the numbers to protect the environment. People forget that the environment and beauty is to be enjoyed. It’s like having a magnificent painting and keeping it locked up in a vault. Pointless.

Never mind sending loans and vaccines to Thailand. The aid they really need is some educated grown ups to start making sensible decisions.

It seems like their calculator has let them down again. Quote from the article:

The minister said that even though the ministry had taken strict measures to limit the number of visitors to Maya Bay, over 3,000 visitors came every day during Songkran. The ministry allows 380 tourists per hour to visit the island, and requires them to book trips there in advance.

So this implies that despite their best efforts, still too many have visited with as many as 3,000 a day. Well hold on. Isn’t 380/hour (their own allowance) multiplied by say 8 hours a day. That equals 3,040 per day!!

WTF is wrong with them? If 3,000 a day is too much then limit the daily allowance to 100/hour or 800 per day.

Some of these comments have to be lost in translation surely?  No country has as many dumb arses in charge as this lot otherwise. We’ve got Transport Ministers overseeing one of the highest road fatalities on the entire planet supporting faster speed limits. We’ve got Health Ministers thinking it just may be possible Some ATK results aren’t being reported. Now we have Tourism officials setting targets that when they are hit say the targets are wrong. A total laughing stock. I’d love to know what some of the embassies report back home on. I read the Bangkok Post each morning as a way of having a good laugh. Far better than any comic or rag mag!

Better close it permanently. That is good for nature from invading humans. At least mother nature can protect her beloved ones in her own way. No human will die if not allowed to visit. But if allowed to visit all the flora and fauna will die.
