Royalist groups in Thailand are in uproar, real or feigned, after a Lazada (online shopping platform) posted photos they claim mocked members of the Thai royal family and physically disabled people in a social media campaign. The group of Royalists fronted up to the Lazada office in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok yesterday demanding answers over, what they perceive, as a controversial video clip on TikTok. Looks like cancel culture is starting to grow here now

No.

This is case of a political group promoting a false claim and attempting to manipulate public opinion. The claim of an offense is false because the action they describe did not occur.  if anything, there should be  stiff penalties for those who use the monarchy as a cover for divisive political activity.

More please. Bring the disabled out of the shadows and into the spotlight. They’ve been hidden away by some for too long by cultural “norms”.

Are you really saying this isn't an example of cancel culture, and then describing a scenario where people are using culture to try and cancel or harm somebody else.  Dude, that IS cancel culture.  What you described is a perfect example of it, yet somehow you are claiming that this perfect example is evidence, rather, that Thailand isn't devolving into cancel culture.

Thats not the only problem Lazada has, Lazada has grown so quick and large its internal systems are failing to keep control of sellers and buyers. I have been a regular customer for 5 years now. I am starting to see more and more dodgy sellers trading under Lazada name. I believe they have not got enough staff to keep all the checks and balances in place. A bit like most major companies around the world, they get so big they become disconnected from their customers and only see $ signs.

Not bothered about the story. But every time I see something on Lazada, I go to Shopee and buy it much cheaper.

Not seen the ad, I can only tiptoe into this topic. But I don't get the Elitist logic. There are so many ways to interpret the picture. Looks to me like a far stretch. But it highlights the ultra sensitivity of some Thai folks...farangs be forewarned.
