The US denies allegations that a new American consulate in Chiang Mai is supplying weapons to rebel groups in neighbouring countries and is being used for covert military operations. A local Thai group wrote an open letter requesting US President Joe Biden to rethink the purpose of the consulate, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023. The allegations were made in an open letter written by Nithithorn Lumlua, a representative of the “Peoples of Thailand” group. Spokesperson for the US Embassy in Bangkok Nicole Fox said the allegations are without merit. She said the construction of […]

Article paste: Former media tycoon Sondi Limthongkul – a famous “yellow-shirt” – said he expects the consulate will become a US spy centre in Southeast Asia.

Now here is a totally credible honest person who has never flip flopped at one time on his thoughts, stances and whom he supports. Not! It perhaps woulld be safer and more warm to sleep in a den full of posionsous snakes rather than to believe and follow him. This person needs to go away and not be heard or seen ever again. Hope the US sues him for defamation.

Sounds like a good idea to me, anything to keep the CCP in check. Thailand is on the defensive due to its lovey dovey relationship with China.

Americans will never accept. The entire world is in a chaotic situation is only because of them. They have screwed up many countries for their own benefit after WW2, starting from Japan till Afghanistan. Wherever they step in disaster is waiting to be seen

Like the purpose of the Chiang Mai Russian Consulate, the flip flops between open and closed, with Thai police guards. Maybe now closed as no Russian Tourists or they cannot afford the cost of security.

Asking for the US to lift an arms embargo on Myanmar seems a little strange, when most of their arms are supplied by Russia and China. Used for covert operations - that wouldn't surprise me, but then it wouldn't surprise me to hear that about the consulates and embassies of quite a few countries.

I'm not sure what country you're from but the history you've been taught about the US seems a bit skewed a bit much in the negative.  You're welcome for all the innovation that comes out of the US that benefits human-kind in general.

I'm not sure what this person is talking about...seems Japan has done pretty well after WWII.  lol.  And Afghanistan, well you can't see we didn't try to help those poor bastards escape the clutch of the Taliban.  This person may not have the internet where they are from...seems they don't know world events very well.

I like the old consulate as have been there over my years so many times probably nearing 20. Easy to get to and not far and has some charm to it by the river. This and these Thai guys are quacks who need to go away.

Countries are not allowed to think themselves. They are being targeted in many ways to give-up by the strong holds. Why attack Iraq? Why arrest Huawei CFO? Why laid sanctions against Russia?, Why remove Houthi rebels from terrorists list?  Why support the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital? Why laid sanctions on Venezuela & Iran Oil and now going  back through back door to negotiate? Why accepting Taiwan as part of china and supplying weapons and trainings to Taiwan? Why telling Zelensky to  fight back and now indirectly telling him to decide what he like if he wants to give away part of the country? Why always talk louder as "Partners and Allies" but leave all those who trusted, stranded and running away overnight from Afghanistan? Why former Houduras President who once was a guest of honour suddenly became a criminal? Why all the European nations which was united and strong with Euro is in a chaotic situation now? Why is there a war once in every 10 years? Who is the major arms manufacturer? Who is the person invading other countries by the use for force and weapons?.......I can keep on asking. If you can find the root cause for all these....all these will direct to only one answer - USA

It is well-known that the USA muscle its way and try to force everyone to follow their rules. They have the biggest military in the world.

Look at what happened to Saddam, and how USA is trying to force China and India not to buy Russian oil.

USA doesn't practice democracy and free speech even though it preaches it. Democracy means to respect every country's opinions even if they are different from yours.

Indian don't even bother about USA. During the gulf war, when the people of Iraq was suffering due to the bombing by USA, no humanitarian aid was allowed to pass through the red sea. It said any ship that passes through the red sea to Iraq will be attacked. But India boldly send one ship load of humanitarian aid, challenging USA to attack its ship. USA backed off and let the ship pass through. Because it knows that India always has the strong support of Russia and Russia is always backed up by China. Now for the Ukraine issue, India clearly told USA, that it is American's war. So India will not do anything that affect Indian interest. Even the Opec countries don't want to pump out extra oil to support the temporary demand caused by USA. No choice USA has to release its reserves to meet the shortage. That is the main reason Houthi rebels were removed from terrorist list with the aim of causing havoc in UAE. Just see how they treat the people of colored skin in USA. They have to clean their own house first before telling other to clean their respective houses

I wonder how many people work in that consulate. Most consulates I have known, from different countries, have a consul / honorary consul and (sometimes) a secretary. If they have to handle weapons they must have quite some people working there.
Now embassies, they have sometimes a lot of "cultural attachés".

You have quite a distorted view of the world and its history... while certainly not perfect in many ways and certainly has a long way to go in "cleaning its own house" the United States has many good attributes which until recently has outweighed its shortcomings... just ask the millions of immigrants to the USA why they are invading the country if it so damaged as you say... even your Indian brothers and sisters mass there if they get the opportunity... to escape your countries draconian laws and lifestyle.
