That's fine.   If the Muslims were putting up a statue that they had every right to do and other Thais objected, would they be happy to cancel it?

When I suggested we build a huge statue of Barry Manilow EVERYONE objected. They said the nose would be a road hazard.

It would have been nice if this article relayed the motivations of TPIPP. That would have shed some light on why they (apparently) think it is a great idea to build a 200 meter tall statue (200m was mentioned by the BKKP, even though I'm skeptical about that) that won't be appreciated by a large portion of the local community? All it takes is a phone call or even an e-mail.

Hard to form an opinion as it stands, other than a common-sense-baseline that the  extravagance of building any statue wherever and symbolizing whatever is proportional to the resources that are wasted.

BUT are they just Thais, or Muslim Thais, Malay Thais, Chinese Thais or Thai Bhuddists.

So drop the Chinese goddess as a bit inappropriate to the local folk, and let's propose one in recognition for the good ole CCP XI. Compromise!

That is the tolerance of the Islam/Muslims: They want show their religious believes everywhere, to everyone, out in the open. Even in the deepest catholic areas they expect that to happen. If not, .....!
