In Thailand’s tense Deep South, Muslim communities are speaking out against a plan to build a statue of a Chinese goddess on a mountain in Thepa district. The company planning to build it is TPI Polene Power Plc, a power plant operator. It would have been nice if this article relayed the motivations of TPIPP. That would have shed some light on why they (apparently) think it is a great idea to build a 200 meter tall statue (200m was mentioned by the BKKP, even though I'm skeptical about that) that won't be appreciated by a large portion of the local community? All it takes is a phone call or even an e-mail.

Hard to form an opinion as it stands, other than a common-sense-baseline that the  extravagance of building any statue wherever and symbolizing whatever is proportional to the resources that are wasted.

That is the tolerance of the Islam/Muslims: They want show their religious believes everywhere, to everyone, out in the open. Even in the deepest catholic areas they expect that to happen. If not, .....!
