Why the hell would you send your top commanders into the conflict area. Don’t they have Zoom?
btw: Kyiv claims he was killed in March so maybe the Russians are just moving his corpse around for morale boosting purposes?

How about Vitaly Gerasimov killed and Valery Gerasimov wounded?
Or complcated? In March a Gerasimov was killed but it was noted  (also on this forum) that it was not the Chot (Chief of Staff).

The article I linked to said the guy was Chief of Staff. You’re right, I’m wrong, Mommy Gerasimov is not happy.

The intelligence arm of the Ukrainian defence ministry said Maj Gen Vitaly Gerasimov, chief of staff of the 41st Army, had been killed outside the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, along with other senior officers.”

Would Russia’s future plans be to claim the waters around the docks as being Russian waters so they can mine or blockade them all they want?  They are already preparing to hold “referendums”’ in the southern regions.

btw: this old Ukrainian language map could partially explain why Russia might not have such a hard time with the residents or insurgents in their captured areas.

As this Ukrainian-language map illustrates, Ukrainian and Russian share overlap with Surzhyk (Yellow – West: Russian: 3.1%, Surzhyk: 2.5%, Ukrainian: 94.4%; Yellow – center Russian: 24.2%; Surzhyk: 14.6%; Ukrainian: 61.2%; Bright green – east-center: Russian: 46.4% Surzhyk: 21.7% Ukrainian: 31.9%; Teal – east Russian: 86.8% Surzhyk: 9.6% Ukrainian: 3.7%; Teal – south Russian: 82.3%; Surzhyk: 12.4%; Ukrainian: 5.2%). I'll correct you, it's in Russian on the map.

But the proportions are correct. I think Putin's minimum goal, ultimately, is to turn the dark green areas into a pro-Russian state or join Russia in the future.

So possible it is.

The only reason you would have high level commanders that close to the front is if your communications were compromised or your chain of command had broken down.

I suspect both are in play here.

Oh I need to add that if the US can track high level terrorists then can also do the same with Russian generals.

God bless the US of A.

Learn the history. 30 its time when americans builded factories for Soviet Union, steel, tractors etc. And many facts more. And not only americans. And Stalin was good for them. He just paid)

It was 90 years ago.

A lot has changed from that time.

USA and EU will help to re-build Russia again, for sure. But only after Russia becomes peaceful democratic country even if it takes 40 years.

What news have you seen out of Russia?  Do you think the numerous Ukrainian soldiers videoed kneecapping and executing POWs will be brought to justice by a Ukrainian court and be in the news soon? And are they “behaving like animals under so-called officers that don't give a sh1t?”
International courts with due processes are already in place to handle allegations of war crimes.

Bad news tovarisch, the court will be biased again like it was in Nurnberg.

But now Russia is the culprit instead of Germany, they will judge Russian soldiers the same as they judged German SS soldiers.

Do not expect any objectivity after all these despicable crimes.

Its all going wrong isn't it. The war, the sanctions, world opinion and for what? How does Czar Putin win this?

Why not call for Russia to leave the Ukraine and end the suffering?

not only has he doubled of profits

Russia doubles fossil fuel revenues since the invasion of Ukraine began

but he has also trapped the EU.

Russia has effectively caught the EU in a trap where further restrictions will raise prices further

An apologist for tsar Putin has sat down in the Guardian and brings confusion to the harmonious thoughts of Europeans.

You're not seeing the forest for the trees. Russia's windfall is transitory, their oil production is beginning to collapse:

"The energy companies, Exxon (XOM), Total (TTE), BP (BP), leaving Russia, stranding assets in Russia. What we've seen is that production in Russia is down more than a million barrels in April alone," said Dicker. "That's going to be a long term systemic problem with production in Russia," he added. "That's a very very big deal for long term prices."

Oil: 'Something far more serious is going on,' says analyst (msn.com)

It's a two fold problem for Russia. With the European countries, and others, cutting out Russian oil, and to a lesser degree gas. It puts upward pressure on production. The increase by countries like India, and surprisingly much less than expected with China, can't compensate. Russian refineries are already shutting down supply, they have no where left to store all the oil. It's expected Russia will be forced to start shutting down wells this month. You don't just turn wells back on like your bathroom faucet. It takes a long time and huge investment if you even can do so. See Russia's best fields and most productive wells are in the Siberian permafrost. If the freeze gets to them before they can be turned back on, the wells are lost for good. You have to re-drill them. Last time this happen back when the Soviet Union collapse, it took 30 years for the production levels to fully return. Second problem is companies like Haliburton, Baker-Hughes, Schlumberger and BP have all left Russia. See they were the ones running those well fields. Technologically the Siberian fields are the toughest in the world and Russia doesn't have the expertise to run them. They will all atrophy over the next year or two. This is a bigger problem for the eastern fields that supply China as that demand will remain, while the western fields will be the ones turned off first.

As a result, prices, as you point out, will continue to go up because of less supply. Only Russia will continue to get less as it's percentage of the market will collapse. Don't worry you still have gas ... for now. Of course wars are very expensive so that money will have somewhere to go besides the pockets of the Oligarchs

And so did Kuwait’s oil production after Sodom Insane set fire to their wells. Production was affected and restored quick enough. How long have the Russians been pumping oil and you think they still need their hands held by the US? If the Americans become allergic to Russian petrodollars someone else will take them. There is nothing an American likes more than a greenback and a barrel of crude, apart from a war.

Not the same thing. The Kuwaiti wells were easy in comparison. Once you put out the fires of course, I wonder who did most of that? You can’t drill in Siberia except in the winter and only a handful of companies have the equipment and are technology experienced enough to do so. Anyone and their brother can drill in Kuwait. Never mind the huge expense of the undertaking. Yes they still need their hands held, that why Russia was still paying them a premium to do so up to last month. Not just the US, but the Brits too. America is a net oil exporter btw. Keep in mind this is only half of the problem, the longer term problem.

The immediate problem is the lack of storage and the falling demand. Even if you want to pretend that won’t be a problem, there are upcoming issues with shipping oil, and issues with supplying natural gas.

Not according to the gurus on here it hasn't. Count how many times Stalin, Hitler and even the radio propagandists are mentioned. Some people are stuck in that era.
