Recommended Posts

Thailand’s Deputy Interior Minister says road deaths during Songkran reduced by 20% from last year, during the first four days between April 11-17. The first four days saw 1,195 road accidents, with 157 deaths, and 1,185 people injured. Last year there were 1,795 road accidents, with 192 people killed, and 1,818 injured, during the same four days. Officials across the country have been ramping up road safety campaigns and protocols during Thailand’s infamous “Seven Dangerous Days”. Last week, a police major general said drunk drivers caught between April 11-17 would likely be jailed without suspension if convicted. Phuket police set […]

Please don’t tell me these numpties are actually claiming some form of success by their actions?  The reason why it’s down by 20% is that many people have not travelled. Many in tourist areas are already out of work and back in the villages. People have no money and not partying like they did. The big Thai nightclubs are closed. All of these are the reason death tolls (still appallingly high) are down by 20%. Back up to normal next year assuming the country opens up fully. Guaranteed as nothing practical has been done.

The reason it is lower is there were no huge open celebrations en-mass. More keyed down. So trying to take credit for lower numbers is hogwash. Maybe what will come about this is they will try to control the people next year again and ban the fun making it illegal. I don't think they will reliquish the iron fist.

Less people died at the scene of the crash …… but as the Thai way, they don’t report how many died when they make it to hospital. Also there figures always conflict between government and other reporting sites.

Yes agree, but my point was that there was less external partying activity (becasue banned) so less travel by folk to go out and whoop it up and then have to drive farther to get back to point A.

Thai roads are among the world’s deadliest, with road accidents claiming 32.7 lives for every 100,000 people

Is it any wonder when parents allow children to ride motorcycles on the road and many so motorists have no drivers licence?

Even the ones that do have a license drive like maniacs. The whole Thai driving system is 100% flawed. They have no perception of risk or danger. There are no rules other than the strongest survive. Utterly shameful and a national embarrassment. Talk about loss of face!

None of those crazy drunk tourists?🙂

The tourists are 100% to blame for everything. They are the ones who cause all the road deaths. They are also responsible for all the Covid cases in the country. They are totally responsible for all the prostitution and were to blame for the 1997 financial crash. They hold the country back and promote freedom of thought and speech that endangers the very fabric of Thai society. They regularly jump from hotel balconies causing distress to Thai people. They all use the hospitals and then leave without paying their bills. They are the cause of all the drug dealing and none of them will wear motorbike helmets. They write pesky reports about human trafficking and corruption which shows they don’t understand Thai people. They can’t eat spicy food and spit on you when they talk. Makes you wonder why they want 40 million a year visiting the country.
