SongKran - New Year??

My car tax says its the year 2565 and that started on 1st January.  So if Songkran is New Year in Thailand, why doesn't year 2566  start at that time?  If it doesn't, then it's not New Year is it?   G/F just shakes her head and walks away when I point out this inconsistency.

Had great time staying dry while taking my photos in Rawai Phuket. Not sure how to share them all on the Thaiger... Here is the only one that I could upload correctly.

Yes....of course.

Though, over the years, some things have officially changed by following the Jan 1 date as a standard for the new year.

In the good old days - not too long ago - a true Thai calendar was distinctly different from standard Western designed counterparts. As was the officialness of a new year - usually beginning on April 13.

Remember when the head mast date of newspapers cycled in the new Thai year on the 14th of April - signaling the new year. Of course, this tradition has reverted using the 1st of Jan as the cycled new year.

Many common Thai calendars also easily blend Chinese associations.
