Hey! I previously overstayed my 30 day stamp because of Covid situation and was fined + banned for 1 year. 1 year has passed and I am wondering if I would have any issues at the border when entering Thailand. As far as I understand there is a chance I might not be allowed to enter. But it is not clear to me how likely/unlikely it is and what(if anything) can I do now to make sure I am allowed to enter the country?

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum.

You must have overstayed more than 90 days to receive a 1 year ban.
Did you receive a stamp in your Passport or anything official in writing confirming a 1 year ban?

Yeah, I got the paper that says that I am blacklisted for 1 year.
I overstayed for around 5 months unfortunately

Well that's a positive start.
Two things I would do in that situation;
1. Obtain a new Passport.
2. Apply for a Tourist Visa, don't try entering VE again the first time.
If the Thai Embassy sees no reason to refuse issuing a Visa, then Immigration have less reason to refuse entry.

I'd also carry the letter as confirmation your ban has expired.

Thanks a lot for the advice. But from what I've heard it's basically pointless to get a new passport because their databases have improved a lot recently and my overstay won't go unnoticed no matter what passport I give them. 
Applying for a visa through the embassy must be the way. If they give me a visa without any issues I shouldn't be denied entry at the border
