On Saturday, Ramathibodi Hospital revealed they’ve diagnosed the first patient with the new variant, saying he’d already recovered. According to Dr. Supakit Sirilak, the director-general of the Department of Medical Sciences, the new XE variant is a combination of the two Omicron sublineages BA.1 and BA.2. This article says 12,000 passengers arrived which is near to pre-pandemic levels passing trough Suvarnabhumi airport. Really?

According to data released by the airport pre-pandemic, there were 65,400,000 passengers. I assume that means in and out. Given pre-pandemic tourist numbers were 39,000,000 and not all would have gone through Suvarnabhumi, it becomes hard to work out just how many daily arrivals you would expect. If we take the 65,400,000 and half it, that’s 32,700,000 per year or an average of 89,500 per day. So what am I missing if only 12,000 have arrived and a claim of near pre-pandemic levels? 12,000 per day would mean 4,380,000 a year. Even if we double that as they will ALL leave, that means only 8,760,000 a year. That’s 13.4% of pre-pandemic levels. So utter nonsense then. They must think no one in the world can do basic arithmetic, just because they can’t!
