Historically and in current times Thailand is a polygamist country where women are objectified and below a man. No greater example of this than the slang word "kik" which in Thai means mistress. Being a woman in Thailand is about being a subservient Baby Maker to a breadwinning man of higher status so that the woman can take care of her parents. Critics might say this is the old way of the past but it's not for the majority of the country outside of Bangkok.
