A needlefish impaled a tourist in the neck while he was swimming at a popular beach in Thailand on Thursday. Careful not to remove the needlefish from his neck, lifeguards gave the man first aid on Ao Tan Khu beach in the eastern province of Trat by Cambodia before taking him to a local hospital at around 1pm. Local officials are now warning swimmers to watch out for the needlefish. I fully expect that the current government will soon 'discover' documents proving that Thaksin and Yingluck secretly funded the Needle Incognito Fish Training Yard And Shooting School (NIFTY-ASS) in order to have a method of damaging tourism to be used to discredit Prime Minister Prayut.

I expect future elections to be cancelled until this threat is properly investigated and neutralized. The investigation is expected to wrap up in 2026 at the latest.

And you can add the Trigger Fish in Thai waters to be not so fun when provoked. Would hate to have that thing use me as a human dart board.

That is mainly the Titan triggerfish - they are very aggressive when they are defending a breeding pit, and they have become aggressive around Phuket were they have been hassled by too many thoughtless divers.

Itchy trigger fish finger. They are irritable and very scary if provoked.

Nor do they have scales! Completely different species. Needle fish are Kosher, Sword Fish are not! No wonder they are so expensive! 🤣

Ha ha, good one! 😉

Needlefish don't have scales either.  Smooth, silky, somewhat slimy buggers.  Caught them often wade-fishing shallow reef waters around Asia/Pacific region.   They don't 'attack' people, per se.  I'd call it accidental collision between fast moving fish and human.

Inverse situation from fast moving, sharp beaked Needlefish vs. mostly stationary human object, are those bloody Asian Carp that have gotten into USA river systems.  When excited/scared, they leap out of the water, often en masse, and if your boat's going through fast enough, can knock you out on impact.  Dad in photo below smartly had his kid wear a helmet while scare-fishing this invasive species.
