By providing the knowledge to hotel staff, Professor Lakkhana Thaikrua hopes tourists who come to the island can learn how to protect themselves against box jellyfish stings and feel more confident at the beach. Since 2002, 10 people in Thailand have died from box jellyfish […]

Pour vinegar over the wound as quickly as possible and for at least 30 seconds.

Vinegar is a "must have" on the beach, it be used to detere nasty dogs and to sprinkle on your salad too.

So peeing on the wound doesn't work anymore? 🤭

Actually just in case some still believe that (we all at some point believe something that is not true until we know), never do that, it makes it worse.

They did that on last year's lecture, all representatives had to drink 4 beers to speed up the process, heard it was very well received.

To administer CPR when someone has lost consciousness is a very dangerous practice. If their heart has stopped beating and they have stopped breathing also then yes, CPR. If they are unconscious then you must first  carry out the above for  vital signs of response. If they are still alive put them in the recovery position and apply the vinegar. Then maybe move them somewhere cooler all before calling a medical team for assistance. On a number of occasions whilst in Thailand I have had experience of casualties being given CPR by individuals who clearly do not know what they are doing.

Treatments for a Box Jellyfish Sting

If a box jellyfish stings someone, take the following measures:

  • Take the person out of the water carefully
  • Apply vinegar to the sting for 30 seconds
  • Check the person's pulse and breathing regularly
  • Call an ambulance in case of an emergency

Many beaches in Australia have clearly marked stations offering vinegar for the public for this very creature. But if you don't have access to vinegar, you should remove any tentacles from the sting carefully before washing the area with seawater. Start resuscitation if the person has stopped breathing.

I think 🤔 All beaches should have signs with pictures of the Dangerous jelly fish!

And a warning on when they are most prevalent!

Also Warning ⚠️ on what to do in case of Emergency!

And getting Vinegar on the areas effected ASAP

This should become well known fact at all beaches especially if tourists are unaware of what to do and the dangers involved!

TAT probably don’t like the idea as it’s detrimental to tell people of dangers???

Money being their key interest!

But let’s just get over it and warn people of these dangers!

They do, on the beaches I go to, East of Rayong.

Yet Another Reason NOT to enter ANY Tropical Waters. Or get on ANY Tropical Boats. Way Too Many Serious Hazards for the Unwary.

Swim Pool Fin Laps for me.
Beach Walking Fine with Proper Shoes  (Former SCUBA guy ; so shove any “ coward” remarks).
