This is a good move on the part of the government (hmm... that sounds strange to say!). However, it won't really work. Yes, it might discourage a few from ever starting (a good thing), but won't significantly affect the total number of people smoking.

If you want to discourage and/or stop people from smoking, raise the tax.

Then, raise the tax again.

Next, raise the tax.

Raise the tax. Again, and again and again.

Raise the tax.

Every. Three. Months.

Rinse and repeat.

Raise the tax.

If you want to see a reduction in the numbers of smokers, give them a swift kick in the... wallet.

Raise the tax.

How about if they want to be reall proactive, then make a law that mandates: everytime a Thai dies from smoking then all the top regime leaders here in control must each pay the family 30 million baht.

That actually worked in California when I was there. I had a few friends quit because of it too.

Then they ought to mandate a motorbike accident visual to pop up on the screen of all motorbikes when they start up. Maybe add some visuals on liquor, beer and wine bottles too for all the good that will do. 😕

They have warnings on foldable prams advising you to remove the baby before folding, and they have a warning on a chainsaw telling you not to hold the chain when starting. Common sense has gone out of the window.

Thank God for that. I am personally sick of being told smoking while pregnant harms my baby.

Will they also start putting stickers on fuel pumps? Cars? Motorbikes? Field burning? Oh how about stickers everywhere saying opposing the government is harmful to your health?

Smokers. The ONLY minority group its OK to persecute.

Bingo! 800 baht a packet in Australia compare to 100 baht in Thailand.
