Good on him, Rock deserved a slap. I then heard that Elton John and his husband/wife/ partner whatever, told their sons that it was never appropriate to strike someone, however provoked.  That is, of course, nonsense.

Absolutely right.  Its a real snooze fest and the winners are hardly ever the best movies of that year, apart from a very few notable exceptions.

For a long time the awards have been handed out on a basis of what colour/race/sex you are.

Middle aged white men are not allowed to win anything any more.

I agree.  Somehow a slap is much more demeaning and effective to the one receiving it and is unlikely to cause any injury, except to that person's pride and dignity.

Actually I'm wrong here. Hopkins won it last year for best actor.

Aparrently this was unscripted, no auto-cue and not rehearsed. A true pro.
