Thaiger Talk Quiz #213 - Tax in Thailand
I earned 2. The inheritance tax is a hot topic for some. I sympathize with people from high tax countries who argue against inheritance tax on the basis that the person who had the wealth had already paid tax on the money. I understand why there is some tax in the USA (because personal income taxes are low and the inheritance tax attaches at a higher amount). The Thai tax approach seems reasonable. I do feel for UK residents who really get screwed with the inheritance and personal income tax rates. It is a diabolical tax structure that punishes people who create wealth. I was clueless on the VAT tax rate. -

News Forum - Pattaya tourism operators wary of extended nightlife hours proposal
I must admit I like a beer and going out in the evening but seriously 4 a.m ? If you need to stay out till that time you may have a problem, I can see why maybe nightclubs would stay open so late but the majority of the nightlife surely doesn’t need to stay open till that time? I’m pretty sure most of the staff won’t get paid for the extra hours they are required to work either. Will it truly help the tourist industry I kinda doubt it, just my opinion. -

News Forum - Surin Beach sunbeds mysteriously vanish, sparking tourist speculation in Phuket
I suggest that you visit at high tide when there isn't a crackdown. The problem at high season is that the beaches get crowded out and the local authorities have to take preventative actions. The fact remains is that these are commercial operators who squat on the beach profiting from a public asset that is supposed to be open to all. The very fact that one of the beach gangs seeks to take over various part of the beach speaks to that. It was only a few short years ago that the illegal beach clubs were cleared. Now the operators are trying to creep back. Have you ever been to Patong beach? How many jetskis are stationed there? I will count again when I am there next week. My highest count was 78 one high season. People are not allowed to sit on much of the beach because it is used by the illegal parasail gangs. -
