A preliminary look into the possible causes of a fatal China Eastern crash on Monday has investigators baffled, according to a Bloomberg report. In particular, mystery surrounds why the Boeing 737-800 appeared to enter a sudden nosedive from a cruising altitude of 29,000 feet, an hour before it was scheduled to land. The aircraft was flying from the southern city of Kunming to Guangzhou, north of Hong Kong. with 132 people on board. Video footage captured by a nearby mining company appears to show the aircraft in a steep nosedive, although its authenticity has not been confirmed. Like other investigators, […]

i saw what was presumably a video of this thing diving. vertical dive like a rock, very strange, usually, plane would rotate, unless it lost both wings

Did you see both views? The one you described was the front on, …. The other shows the angle it was descending at.

“ the crash investigators concluded that badly trained panicky pilots often fail to overcome solvable technical flight problems and so crash perfectly good aircraft” ….. me looking into the future here .😝

Memory says they had a problem a few years ago with severe metal fatigue where the wings join the fuselage.  No wings goes straight down.

That was 'cracks' found in the pickle-forks.   At least one wing was still attached upon impact as the tip was deposited on edge of the crater, as per pics.

Possibility, one detached quickly stressing the other wing to semi detach and be totally useless in maintaining any stability and complete detachment on impact.

Do think that maintenace checks on all aircraft have been thrown out due to cost cutting re Covid, money rules everything these days. Chinese airlines have been heavily impacted by Covid, probably more so than Qatar etc. and will not, or not have the budgets for checks.

Mind I had a few friends who were Engineers and had many patents for aircraft parts who refused point bank to ever fly. Generally they said planes should not get off the ground but there was a bit more to it than that.
