Over 350 vaccinated medical workers in Indonesia infected, dozens hospitalised

Recommended Posts

Hundreds of healthcare workers in Indonesia have tested positive for Covid-19, despite being vaccinated, with dozens hospitalised. According to a Reuters report, over 350 medical staff, all of whom have received the Sinovac vaccine, have been confirmed as infected. Most are asymptomatic, but dozens have been hospitalised with high fever and low oxygen levels. The infected healthcare workers are in the Kudus district of central Java and the asymptomatic among them are self-isolating at home. Kudus is currently in the grip of an outbreak of the highly-contagious Delta variant, formerly known as the Indian variant, with hospital bed occupancy now […]

“ all of whom have received the Sinovac vaccine” - not surprised in the least.

Not surprised in the slightest either. Wish it could be made clear in bold and large font in news articles though as many people in Australia seem intent on overlooking the fact that this is about the Sinovac vaccine and not vaccines in general. They'll then advocate for even longer isolation from the rest of the world on the basis that the vaccines in general aren't working against the mutations, especially the Delta variant which is absolute BS of course. While even Pfizer has some reduced efficiency against the Delta one, it would be nowhere near as bad as the Sinovac crap so no reason to stay locked away from the rest of the world forever!

Provided enough vaccination options have been offered to a population with the right vaccines, there should be no reason why any country should stay locked down any longer than needed.

Wonder how many Pfizer doses the Chinese have bought in the meantime :D I'm guessing they're not giving that Chinese made crap to any of the higher-ups ;)

Sinovac, estimated vaccine effectiveness is around 50% to 60% and a real worry for the healthcare staff within Indonesia.

Plenty of better Vaccines from other medical companies that the government could have purchased and was it a case the Indonesian government got it on the cheap?

Same problem what Chile and Brazil had with Sinovac. The responsibilty is now at the government not to order other vaccines in time. The studies about this problem is known long time ago. They risk lives, health and the economy of the whole country!

Studies in Chile, Brazil etc it was 30 % or less effectiveness at the new variants.

The Indonesia government is proposing to give it's healthcare workers a third shot with a western vaccine. Almost 20 fully vaccinated doctors have died from the Delta variant. Also over a hundred fully vaccinated healthcare workers are hospitalized in serious condition, and thousands have become infected with milder symptoms.
