Reception should always lock the door at night and have a ringer alarm when anyone enters.

1950's technology still works.

Why would any receptionist bring valuables and gold to work with them and leave them lying around?  Certainly no guest would leave their valuables laying around a guest house lobby.

One baht of gold is 26,000 so 100,000 baht in losses is a necklace and a couple of rings. Stored in the same drawer as the cash?
