Recommended Posts

Thailand plans to declare Covid-19 an endemic by July 1 and has laid out a plan to focus on reducing infection rates and coronavirus-related deaths by swift and accessible medical treatment, as well as by accelerating the rollout of booster dose vaccines, particularly to the elderly. During a press briefing today, PM Prayut Chan-o-cha Covid-19 said Covid-19 is still a pandemic and relevant departments have been ordered to closely monitor the Omicron sub-variant BA.2.2, which was recently detected in Thailand. Way too long to wait to have any impact on tourism and the Thai economy.

It’s almost a certainty that along this road there will be failures to meet such requirements as set out and in turn the July date will slip, eventually leaving Thailand the last country to do away with the ridiculous entry requirements.

Tourism is hanging on by a thread, as are those people that own businesses or are employed in the industry. Those very same people are now to be faced with huge increases in energy costs, along with thousands of Thai citizen’s that had jobs related to the industry and are waiting to return to them.

IMO. If Thailand does not follow the example of most of their competitors very quickly, they will be heading for the perfect storm.

Covid is here to stay. Deal with the spikes as they happen (just like flu spikes) or economically die trying to manage it

If Thailand doesn’t get rid of quarantine restrictions soon, particularly for fully vaccinated travellers, they may as well forget trying to attract them later on as tourists will have gone elsewhere and won’t be coming back!

What happens after nearly every disaster? Things gets better. In this case, Thai tourism will be forced to lift it’s game. The tourists will be back, the buffalos will be sick and the smile will be broader.

It's for the better for Thailand to regress back 10 years. Brings back the good old times when it restarts

It would need to go back more than 10 years to bring back the good old times, maybe 30-40 years, now  that was when Thailand was amazing!
