A tourism school  is helping stranded Russians and Ukrainians in Koh Samui stay in a hotel for about 4,000 baht a month. This is for up to 30 rooms at a hotel on Chaweng beach. Many Ukrainians can’t return home due to the violence from Russia’s invasion, while many Russians’ flights home have been canceled. Many Russians also can’t access funds now that Mastercard and Visa have sanctioned cards issued in Russia. The Koh Samui chief district officer also called for a meeting with the Red Cross to launch a campaign supporting people stranded. One Koh Samui villa owner also […]

Why do you help the Russians? On a bus with them to Myanmar. Their credit cards will certainly work over there.

You 3^ ^^ ^^^ should be ashamed of yourselves. they are all tourists on holiday and their lives have been upended. They have nothing to do with what is happening over there and are in world of turmoil. Good on the hotel for taking care of them like that.

Full sympathy with the Ukrainians who can't return back home where Russia systematically destroys housing areas and infrastructure.

No pity from me for the Russians. Their embassy should organize for repatriation flights. The predicaments those Russians find themselves in right are self-inflicted  by the government and the president they voted for. At least they have a home to go back to, other than the Ukrainians.

I agree with regards to the Ukrainians. But the Russians now stranded in paradise have voted for Putin (at least the vast majority did) so to say that they are totally innocent is not correct in my view. As Russians they are part of the system that has launched a massive unforced attack on its neighbour, no escape from this one.

After WE II, the vast majority of Germans claimed never to have vjoted for the National Socialist Party and AH - still they won 1933 with a comfortable majority of votes.

At the end, you get what you vote for, and whilst you may not in line with or even in opposition to your own government it's still the elected government of your country and its actions reflect on everyone in this country, like it or not.

There are many Brits that voted for Tony Blair, but if you were to ask those voters about him taking the UK to war with Iraq, what do you think most would say, I'll give you one guess....😊

How many stranded Russians voted for Putin these past 20 years. I bet if you asked they would all deny it. Someone is to blame for this maniac being in power for 20+ years, and it certainly isn’t me!

Imagine using that logic for all the shit that happened over the last 50 years, We recently just came out of period where all Muslims were being blamed for the atrocious actions of their leaders.

Muslims aren’t a country and it wasn’t Muslim leaders who caused the atrocities carried out in the name of Islam. It was a relatively small group of unelected lunatics that carried these things out. Putin is an elected leader of Russia. The people elected him many times. They simply can not now turn their head and claim it wasn’t me. The fact is, many millions are doing just the opposite. Anyone such as musicians who are opposing the war are being attacked and criticised by every day Russians. It’s simply too easy to blame Putin. One man doesn’t do what is happening in Ukraine or happened in Georgia or happened in Crimea or likely to happen in the Balkans. These are Russians.

Then why did the western media continually say that Russian elections are rigged ? Are you saying they are wrong?🙂

Both is correct I believe. True, Putin has made it difficult for opposition candidates/parties to get on the voting list which is one way to rig elections without making it too obvious. Yet there are (must be) also a substantial number of reported Putin voters in Russia (albeit presumably not as many as if they would have had a free choice of whom to vote).

Forgive me,but.

I find this type of viewpoint that blaming a population on what their leaders do is very narrow minded and somewhat even a bit racist,

The Japanese people for example had nothing to do with what the Emperor did in starting the War in the pacific.

The English people had nothing to do with Queen Victoria taking Africa.

Could any leader/government do these things you describe without at least the tacit approval of the majority of the population? I don't think so.

Generalisations by definition cannot do everyone justice, I agree. Still the situation for Russians stranded in Thailand cannot possibly be compared with the fate of Ukrainians. The former have a home to go back to, whereas the latter have no more home.

Sorry but I have to disagree and I firmly reject it’s a racist viewpoint. It’s a simple and obvious fact. The British people did have a hand in what Queen Victoria did. I’m British and it would be wrong of me to simply wash my hands of what my country did. The same is true of the Japanese and Germans in WW2. It’s not about blaming an entire nation. Of course there are millions of kind hearted Russians, Germans, Japanese and even the odd Brit 😉. But a nation of people simple can’t hide from what is done in their name by simply saying it was one person.

Putin has made it hard for opposition parties to exist, but they still have a vote. There are sufficient Russian complicit, indirectly, in what Putin is doing. I’m not advocating individuals be persecuted, though it’s a fact many Russians have voted for Putin in the past and will do again in the future. I simply can’t see how you can blame one man for the atrocities when it takes armies of Russians to do what they have done and continue to do.

I would urge you to see my deeper point rather than the superficial point of it being a racist attack on Russians. No people are evil, only individuals are evil. But individual people vote for and put these evil people in power.
